Design Standards

At Ridgeview Valley, understanding and drawing upon the regional building vernacular is important in designing buildings that are expressions of the historic regional tradition and the mountain environment.

The region’s architecture began with many of the natural elements that are found in the landscape - an abundance of stone, timbers and wood finishes, with details born of necessity and severe climate. This contextual architecture represents timeless refinement rather than fashion. It incorporates glass to capture the view and natural layer and steep roof-lines to lessen the snow impact, and expresses a harmony with the natural surroundings. This design philosophy can be seen in abundance throughout Garrett County.

Amendments to the Guidelines

Two amendments to the original guidelines have been incorporated:

1. Changes the minimum square footage of conditioned space from 1,800 sqft to 1,600 sqft. This is in keeping with the spirit of going "green."
2. Allows wood burning fire places, provided they are EPA certified.
